"Grande Passion Tea Lemonade Sweetened for Leslie"
Leslie grabs her drink and she sits back down at a table with a woman that appears to be much older than she is. The older woman starts the conversation:
Woman-"So how are the wedding plans going?"
Leslie-"Terrible, Carl's mother is trying to control everything!"
Woman-"Like how?"
Leslie-"By selecting the menu before I even had a chance to look at it, she said that she didn't want me to stress over it."
Woman-"More like she didn't want you to pick it."
Leslie-"You know what else she said to me?"
Woman-"What?"
Leslie-"She said that her family doesn't like "soul food" and so to avoid conflict she just picked something that we all would like."
Woman-"So are you going to change it?"
Leslie-"I was thinking about it but Carl is already stressed because we are not getting along, so I think I might just leave it alone."
Woman-"And if you do you'll regret it for the rest of your life, you have to show her that it's your day and not hers or her families."
Leslie-"Yeah I know."
Woman-"You have six months before the wedding if you don't do anything now then the next time she'll be picking the music, or the cake, or even telling you whether the kiss should be tongue or no tongue."
Leslie-"You are so silly."
Woman-"I am so right."

Planning a wedding is extremely difficult when you have all these different personalities involved. It is typical for the mothers to be controlling and over bearing during the planning of the wedding. Could it be from jealousy? The mother of the bride could be jealous either because she didn't have a wedding or it wasn't as beautiful as her daughters. The mother of the groom could be jealous because the bride is taking her son away. Mothers are so use to being the only woman in their sons lives that they become territorial when he finally brings a girl home. Claws will come out usually.
Everyone always says, It's all about the bride but is it really? Does picking the most georgeous dress enhance the marriage? No, but is sure does get people talking about how georgeous your dress was. Does having ice sculptures and live bands enhance the marriage? No, but it sure does get people to talking about how beautiful and expensive those additions were. People go to weddings to compare the wedding to previous weddings they've been to. People also go to weddings to criticize and make note of all the things that they won't do at theirs. What if it was a tradition for the bride and groom to be the only two people at the wedding? Do you think we would go through all the trouble of planning it? I don't think so, we plan immaculate weddings for the guest because it's never about the bride and groom. Marriage is a sacred union and we've tainted it with vanity. Marriage is between a man and a woman and we invite hundreds of guests and then wonder why there are so many people involved in our marriages afterwards.
